STONE MATTER(S) _The Centrality of Matter
STONE MATTER(S) stems from a dual interpretation—linguistic and design-oriented—that encapsulates the essence of Vaselli’s work: ‘stone matter’ as a stone material and ‘stone matters’ as an affirmation of value. Stone is a material, but above all, it is what matters. The concept that Vaselli developed for Milan Design Week 2026 is based on a clear and radical principle: stone is not simply a material to be transformed, but a starting point, a constraint to be respected and a guide for the project. In a contemporary context where design is increasingly moving towards dematerialisation, Vaselli reaffirms the centrality of the physical dimension of matter, bringing weight, mass, gravity and provenance back to the fore.
STONE MATTER(S) thus becomes a design statement: matter is not dominated, but interpreted. The project is built around the stone block, maintaining its continuity, density and purity, in an approach that restores value to its original nature. The semantic play on words “matter squared” reinforces this vision, transforming language into position. It is not merely a collection, but a statement: stone is the centre, the starting point and the point of return for the project.
During Milan Design Week 2026, this vision took shape through the design research of architect Pitsou Kedem, who thus explored the material in its most essential form. Indeed, architect Pitsou Kedem, through her practice Pitsou Kedem Architects, has continued her exploration of multi-material blocks, broadening the scope beyond travertine and opening up to polychromatic configurations that explore the as yet untapped potential of composite stone. In both cases, the project stems from a direct dialogue with the material and its inherent properties.

Material, form and transformation
Design by Pitsou Kedem Architects
The inspiration for the LAVA bathroom collection, designed by Pitsou Kedem Architects for Vaselli, stems from the observation of nature.
The phenomenon of volcanic eruption, with its ability to generate new matter and transform the landscape, becomes the conceptual reference point for the project.
Lava, an element in constant transformation, shifts from a liquid to a solid state, altering its shape and colour.
The entire collection is based on this principle, exploring the meeting point between two materials and two different states of stone, crystallising the moment in which these states merge.
The result is a series of elements that express the tension between the total freedom of form in nature – evoked by the fluidity of lava – and the solidity of skilfully worked stone.
A balance made possible by artisanal craftsmanship, capable of redefining the boundaries between the two states.

With LAVA, Pitsou Kedem Architects explores new expressive possibilities of stone, introducing innovative material combinations and giving shape to a contemporary design language.
The creation of the collection required a high level of technical expertise and a deep understanding of the material. In this context, Vaselli played a fundamental role, translating the complexity of the project into concrete solutions. Through advanced processing techniques and a refined artisanal sensibility, the company has thus made it possible to bring together the different expressions of stone.
